President Trump, acting upon the recommendations of the Department of Justice, fired FBI Director James Comey. Trump cited a lack of confidence and public trust in Director Comey, as the reason for his firing.
“It is essential that we find new leadership for the F.B.I. that restores public trust and confidence in its vital law enforcement mission,” President Trump said.
Comey had handled the Hillary Clinton email server case, closed it and reopened it, and then determined that there was not enough evidence to prosecute Mrs. Clinton, a decision widely criticized and believed to be politically motivated.
Mr. Comey testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee, stating that while secretary of state, Hillary Clinton’s aide, Huma Abedin, had “forwarded hundreds of thousands of emails, some of which contained classified information,” to her husband Anthony Weiner. Comey’s firing came hours after the FBI modified his testimony a week ago, about how classified information ended up on the disgraced former congressman Anthony D. Weiner’ laptop.
After the 2016 Presidential election, in what appeared to be a decision fueled by political motivation, Director Comey began an investigation into Trump’s political advisors and their financial ties to Russia, and by implication appeared to be trying to make the case that Trump’s ties to Russia, financial and / or political, unduly affected the 2016 Presidential election.
While there have been numerous documented evidences made known to the public of the Clinton email server scandal, there has been no evidence uncovered or presented to the public, showing that either Trump or any his aides, colluded in any way with Russia to undermine, influence, or corrupt the outcome of the 2016 Presidential election.
The Clintons have been taking massive amounts in foreign donations, much of them coming from Middle East Muslim countries, for years. Barack Obama has been caught on tape colluding with outgoing president Dmitry Medvedev of Russia, telling him that after the 2008 election he would have “more flexibility.” More recently, Obama advertised for Emmanuel Macron, a liberal-globalist presidential candidate, openly influencing the elections in France.
The Trump-Russia FBI investigation has been viewed by many as a political witch hunt.
President Trump was informed by Mr. Comey, on three separate occasions, that he was not under investigation, but critics of Comey’s firing stated that Trump had fired an FBI director who was involved in an open investigation against Trump’s former staff.
Mr. Comey was considered by many to be an independent and unpredictable FBI director capable of disrupting and interfering with President Trump’s administration and the president’s foreign policy, including his relations with Russia.
The White House announced late Tuesday night that Mr. Trump would meet on Wednesday in the Oval Office with Sergey V. Lavrov, Russia’s foreign minister.
Kellyanne Conway, a senior White House adviser, said that the Comey firing was not related to Russia. “Today’s actions had zero to do with that,” she said in an interview on CNN.
When asked by reporters at the White House why he fired Director Comey, Trump replied, “Because he wasn’t doing a good job, very simply, he was not doing a good job.”
