After diplomat Sean Smith’s mother, Patricia Smith, stated that she personally held Hillary Clinton accountable for the death of her son (who died in Benghazi), reporters and commentators on MSNBC began labeling the grieving mother as a “liar.”
“I blame Hilary Clinton,” Smith said at the 2016 Republican National Convention. “I blame Hillary Clinton personally for the death of my son.”
Chris Matthews stated that Smith “lied” and claimed that her rhetoric “ruined” the entire convention.
“I don’t care what that woman up there, that mother has felt,” Matthews expressed. “Her emotions are her own.”
“It’s wrong for someone to get up there and tell a lie about Hillary Clinton,” he stated. “They ruined their evening with this.”
Other reporters began to join their colleague in criticizing the mother.
Unbelievably, Rachel Maddow seemed to distance herself from the other commentators, and appeared to sympathize with Smith. She expressed the mother’s remarks were from the heart, and her entire recollection of her experience with Hillary Clinton was hard to listen to.
