Many years ago my dear father, no doubt a bit frustrated with trying to maintain order in a home with five young children, would often pronounce, “What if we all did that!?” I believe he was calling our attention to the fact that a family cannot function in unity if its members are all doing their own thing, without considering the implications on others. With the same principal in mind I would submit the other side of the question, “Why aren’t we all doing that?”
When we were young pagans we got away with a little anarchy, but now, as mature Christ-followers, it’s time to seriously consider the impact of our actions and inactions. What we do, or fail to do affects the entire family of God.
Choose any issue facing the world today, abortion, threats of Islamic Jihad, homosexual marriage, religious freedom, illegal immigration, racial tensions…you name it, and Christians disagree on it! Why is that? Aren’t we saved by the same Jesus, don’t we read the same Bible, and aren’t we members of the same family?
It’s been noted that if all the professing Christ-followers would unite on issues and choose biblical solutions the world would be overwhelmed with God’s blessings. But we don’t, and aren’t! We can’t even agree if Israel is special to God, marriage is between one man and one woman, if Allah is the anti-Jehovah, or if killing a baby in the womb is murder.
On a much more minor note, the current competition for Republican Party representative for next year’s presidential election is rife with contradicting views on all of the above issues. It is discouraging to have so much disharmony and infighting. So, will this ever change? Yes, but not until our Lord straightens His children out properly. Until then we can and must consider that unity on biblical principals is demanded from our Father, and the anarchy of our former pagan years is to be rejected 100%.
You may not be a candidate for president, but you do have power to be a positive influence in the family. Imagine how blessed we would be “if we all did that.”
“May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 15:5-6/ESV)
The purpose of this blog is to encourage Christ-followers to see God’s Big Picture and be a apart of it. Adonai Eloheinu!
