An outspoken, retired neurosurgeon has been “just what the doctor ordered” for many Conservatives since he came on the scene at last year’s National Prayer Breakfast.
Dr. Ben Carson’s early statements, regarding fundamental freedom, personal responsibility, and the limiting of government, were everything a true Conservative wanted to hear. Yet there have arisen some quiet suggestions that this wise and sincere man may not have as much of a commitment to the Constitution as we might have hoped.
Glenn Beck recently asked Dr. Carson for his opinion on private ownership of semi-automatic weapons, the doctor replied: “There’s a reason for the Second Amendment; people do have the right to have weapons…It depends on where you live. I think if you live in the midst of a lot of people, and I’m afraid that that semi-automatic weapon is going to fall into the hands of a crazy person, I would rather you not have it…However, if you live out in the country somewhere by yourself and want to own a semi-automatic weapon…I’ve no problem with that.”
The Second Amendment to our Constitution states that, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
Dr. Benjamin Carson has some explaining to do…regarding his stand on the Second Amendment.
Dr. Carson had many supporters at this week’s CPAC, where he came in third place in the straw poll for President. I’d like to see this man influence our national outlook. However, he needs to provide clear answers on questions about the Constitution. The nation’s Conservatives are waiting for his opinions!
